Bismillah
Always click amazed to approach, when reading the story of the salih salafus (pious people before). Traces of the lives of honest servants of Allah Ta'ala. Their days are busy with good deeds. It is impossible for such a terrible practice to be carried out by humans. However, they are human, just as we are humans. They can, we also have the opportunity to do so, with taufik and guidance from Allah 'Azza wa jalla.
If you want to find inspiration, their life stories are very appropriate to be used as material. Reading their biographies, fosters a glimmer of enthusiasm to face life in the future. Become a better human being and leave beautiful memories in mortal life. Before stepping to meet the Creator.
It is not an exaggeration when the friend of Ibn Mas'ud Radhiyallahu 'anhu said,
“Who wants to look for examples, look for examples from those who have died. Because indeed people who are still alive are not safe from slander (slipping). They are the companions of Muhammad sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam. The noblest generation of this Ummah is the kindest, the most knowledgeable, and the most anti-excessive in action.
Allah the Exalted chose them to be the companions of His prophet. To establish his religion. Therefore, acknowledge their virtues and follow their principles. And imitate their character as best you can. For indeed they are above the guidance." (Quoted by Ibn Abdil Baar in his book Jami 'Bayanil Ilmi wa Fadhlih).
Moreover, in a noble month like Ramadan, when the reward is multiplied more than in other months. We find their days filled with worship activities and competing to do good to others. Many narrations tell of their sincerity in worshiping in this blessed month. In this brief article, we will describe some very special worship when we fill our month of Ramadan and add the examples of worship of the salaf in the month of Ramadan.
Fasting is very special
Allah Ta'ala proclaims that the holy scriptures are glorious; The Quran was revealed in the month of Ramadan. Allah Ta'ala says,
"The month of Ramadan, the month in which the Qur'an was sent down (beginning) as a guide for mankind and explanations of that guidance and the distinction (between right and wrong)" (Surah Al-Baqarah: 185).
In addition, there are many privileges that Allah Ta'ala has ordained in this holy month. Are as follows:
First, the smell of the mouth of a fasting person, in the sight of Allah the Exalted, is more fragrant than musk.
Second, the angels pray for forgiveness for those who fast until it is time to break their fast.
Third, every day in the month of Ramadan Allah Ta'ala beautifies His paradise, saying,
“My pious servants are about to carry a heavy burden and trouble. Then they will go to you, O heaven."
Fourth, the demons are shackled.
Fifth, the doors of heaven are opened.
Sixth, there is a night of lailatul qadr which is better than 1000 months. Whoever is not lucky to meet that night, indeed he has been hindered from great goodness.
Seventh, those who fast will receive forgiveness on the last night of Ramadan.
Eighth, every night of fasting, Allah Ta'ala frees those who will go to hell.
Given the extraordinary features of Ramadan, what is the right attitude to welcome it? Is it appropriate to respond with useless activities, even sinful? Or staying up late is not for good deeds and lazy? We seek refuge in Allah Ta'ala from these bad attitudes.
The pious servant will welcome Ramadan with honest and sincere repentance. In addition, accompanied by a strong determination to fill it with righteous deeds. While asking Allah Ta'ala for help to be able to worship properly.
Fasting worship
The Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam said,
"All the good deeds of the children of Adam will be rewarded ten to seven hundred times, except fasting. Allah said, really fasting is for Me. I reward fasting. Because the fasting person has left his lust, food and drink. People who fast get two happiness. Happy when breaking fast and happy when meeting his Lord. And the smell of the mouth of a fasting person is sweeter in the sight of Allah than the smell of musk oil” (Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim).
He sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam also said,
"Whoever fasts Ramadan because of the motive of faith and the hope of reward, his past sins will be forgiven" (Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim).
But remember, that the big reward above is not enough to be achieved just by not eating and not drinking. However, it must be accompanied by the practice of the following message of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam,
"Whoever does not leave the words of Zur (false words), practice them, or act foolishly, then Allah has no need for his efforts to withstand hunger and thirst" (Narrated by Bukhari).
And also the words of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam,
“Fasting is a shield. If you are fasting do not speak dirty, do not do evil, do not do stupid (sin). If someone insults him, respond with the words 'I am fasting.'" (Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim).
Increase night prayers
The Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam said,
"Whoever stands (prayer) in the month of Ramadan with faith and hoping (reward), then his past sins will be forgiven" (Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim).
The Qur'an also contains the motivation for the night prayer. Allah Ta'ala says,
"The servants of the Most Merciful God (are) those who walk on the earth humbly and when ignorant people greet them, they say the words (containing) salvation. And those who pass the night prostrating and standing for their Lord." (Surat al-Furqan: 63-64).
Performing night prayers is a habit of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam and his companions. Ibn Aisyah Radhiyallahu 'anha once said,
"Don't leave your evening prayers. Because the Prophet never left the night prayer. If he is sick or unfit, he prays at night sitting down."
Umar bin Khotob Radhiyallahu 'anhu revived the night of Ramadan by praying until the limit of his ability. Then when midnight arrived, he woke his family so that they could pray together. When he wakes up, Umar usually says,
“Salat…pray…”
While reading the verse,
“Order your family to establish prayer and be patient in doing it. We do not ask you for sustenance, We are the ones who provide you with sustenance. And the (good) result is for those who are pious” (Surah Taha: 132).
One day Ibn Umar Radhiyallahu 'anhu read the verse,
"Are you, O polytheists who are more fortunate) or are you one who worships at night with prostration and standing, while he fears the (punishment) of the Hereafter and hopes for the mercy of his Lord" (Surah Az Zumar: 9).
Ibn Umar said, what is meant by this verse is Ustman bin 'Affan Radhiyallahu 'anhu. Then Ibn Abi Hatim explained the words of Ibn Umar,
“Ibn Umar explained that, because Amirul Mukmini; Uthman often performs night prayers and reads a lot of the Qur'an. It is even said that he reads the entire Qur'an in one cycle."
Then the story about the night prayer of Abdullah bin Mas'ud Radhiyallahu 'anhu narrated by Alqamah bin Qais,
"I once stayed with Abdullah bin Mas'ud Radhiyallahu'anhu. At the beginning of the night he prayed. He read the verses that were read by the imam of his village mosque. He read with tartil and in the next rak'ah, he did not repeat the verse that he read. The people who were around him that night heard his reading. He continued to pray until the night was only a little, the size of the distance between the Maghrib call to prayer and the Maghrib prayer. Then he closed the evening prayer with witr.”
In a hadith from a friend of Said bin Zaid it is narrated, "The priest who prays at night (at the time of the companions, pent.) reads hundreds of verses. Until we mummies have to rely on sticks because the prayers are so long." He added, "The companions of the Prophet usually did not finish the evening prayers except at the time of dawn."
Vital Records:
Try to follow the tarawih prayer with the priest until it is finished. In order to get a reward like those who diligently pray at night. The Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wasallam said,
"Whoever prays Tarawih with the imam, it will be recorded for him the night prayer for the whole night" (HR. Ahlus Sunan).
